Welcome to the UK
Overview
In this unit children learn the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom (UK) and the surrounding seas. They look at physical and human features of the capital cities and use this knowledge to create a fact file on each of the cities. With support children are able to locate the four countries of the UK on a range of maps, atlases and globes (including Google Maps). Children are able to research the features of each Capital City through the use of Oddizzi and non-fiction books. They will then use the information gathered to compare the features of all four capital cities using key geographical language in an extended piece of writing. Children are encouraged to express views and opinions about places and deepen their understanding about their own place in the world.
