Early Years
In the Early Years Foundation Stage, (Reception), learning is planned to help the children achieve and, where appropriate, exceed the Early Learning Goals. The Early Years Foundation Stage (E.Y.F.S.) is divided into the two sections: prime and specific areas. Under those headings, the areas of learning are found and organised as follows:
Prime areas
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical development
Communication and Language
Specific areas
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
The children benefit from a well resourced and labelled learning environment where they can access all resources independently and use them in their own learning. They also have access to a good sized outdoor learning environment. The children take part in regular dough disco session, manipulating dough in different ways to strengthen their finger muscles and prepare them for writing.
The children also take part in Movement for Learning, a programme designed to build strength, coordination and balance. They have weekly opportunities for story telling and story acting, observational art and yoga.
